Birthday in a Bag

Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, donated nine “Birthday in a Bag” gifts to a local food pantry. Each bag was filled with a cake mix, cake pan, a card/envelope, and candles.
Veterans shoeboxes

Cabot, and Beebe, Arkansas
The chapter regent delivered seven veteran shoeboxes to a local nursing and rehab in Cabot, seven shoeboxes for vetrans to a local retirement center, and eight shoeboxes to a local medical center. She was joined by the chapter chaplain.

Children’s Advocacy Alliance

Polly Conway Chapter daughters had a fun time shopping for a little 5-year old girl through Children’s Advocacy Alliance. We loaded her up with some new clothes, all in her favorite color purple! We then got down to the real business of a barbie, a new set of crayons, a coloring book, some “official” swag for a little girl, and a few other fun items.
Holiday Open House

The Polly Conway daughters baked cookies and showed up to help pass them out at the Holiday Open House at the Old Statehouse. Approximately 900 visitors came to hear singing and wander the museum. Click here for more photos.
Flag Retirement

Polly Conway members had a Flag of the United States of America retirement ceremony. Two local scouts performed the cermony, led by the Arkansas State Chair of the Flag of the United States of America. Following the ceremony, hot dogs and s’mores were roasted. Native American Month

For Native American month, the Pollies went to Plum Bayou Archeological Mounds (mounds formerly known as Toltec). We took a 45-minute guided tram tour. So interesting how the mounds were used as a calendar that is still accurate today. We then stopped for lunch at Scotts Station. Click here for more photos.
Veterans Day

The chapter regent and a member attended a Veterans Day ceremony in Beebe. Despite the cold weather, there was a good turnout. Our chapter chaplain attended a ceremony in Cabot.
We are the People

The Pollies headed out again! Five daughters visited Bentonville to see the We Are the People exhibit at Crystal Bridges. First time for many to see such original documents: The Constitution, The Bill of Rights, The Articles of Confederation, The Federalist Papers, The Emancipation Proclamation, and the 13th Amendment. The exhibit was rounded out with some original portraits. There was also an Infinity Mirror temporary exhibit that blew us away. Click here for more photos.

The Polly Book Club met to discuss their latest read, “Poor Richard’s Women” by Nancy Rubin Stewart. Then they watched Ken Burn’s two-part film, Benjamin Franklin “Join or Die”.
Madonna of the Trail

The daughters hit the open road on a long weekend trip! Highlights include the Madonna of the Trail in Lexington, Missouri, the Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri, and the Madonna of the Trail in Council Grove, Kansas. Plenty of side trips in between. Click here for more photos.

Six daughters set up a booth at the Beebe Fallin’ Blackbird Festival to promote the DAR and Wreaths Across America. As the second part of their DAR Day of Service, they also passed out military men. They will serve as reminders to pray for our military. Click here for more photos.

Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, attended the Beebe Math & Literacy Fair at Beebe Elementary School. They taught about the Constitution by passing out coloring sheets, and word finds. Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, along with seven other local chapters met on Constitution Day for a presentation by the Arkansas state regent. She read the immortal words of President Harry Truman and his views on the Constitution. After the ceremony, we fed three local police and fire stations to say “Thank you!” Click here for more photos.

Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, members along with the Service for Veterans National chair, visited with a Korean War veteran. He is the 93-year-old father of a Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, member. Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, presented him with the DAR Korean War certificate to honor him for his service during the war. The national chair also did a short pre-interview for the Veterans History Project. For more pictures, click here.

State Memorial Day Program
Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, members, three Husbands of DARs (HODARS), and five family guests attended the Memorial Day Observance at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. The members then attended the Arkansas Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial, which pays tribute to Arkansas who have died in military service since September 11, 2001. The memorial consists of a 3′ x 5′ flag and a placard with a short biography, For more pictures, click here.

Conway Cemetery Historic State Park

Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, and Texarkana Chapter, NSDAR, along with the Arkansas State Park held a DAR Grave Marking Ceremony and the dedication of three new interpretive panels at Conway Cemetery Historic State Park. Edna Bradley Passaglia was a member and regent of the Mary Desha Chapter, NSDAR, Washington D.C., and also a docent at the DAR Museum. Edna Bradley is the last of the Arkansas Pioneer Bradley family buried in the Conway and Bradley family cemetery. She is a distant cousin of our chapter’s namesake Arkansas First Lady Polly Bradley Conway. The organizing chapter regent led the service, assisted by the attending chapter regents, chapter chaplain, and the park superintendent. For pictures, click here.

Wreaths Across America (WAA) Mobile Education Exhibit (MEE)
Beebe School District
The MEE is a rolling interactive exhibit that remembers the nation’s fallen veterans, honors those who serve, and teaches the next generation about the value of freedom. The Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR, in partnership with the Frederick Van Patten Chapter, NSDAR, hosted the WAA-MEE at the Beebe School District. We had 516 people come through the exhibit in over 6 hours. For more pictures, click here.
