Wreaths Across America

Polly Conway Chapter honored local Beebe Veterans during a Wreaths Across America ceremony. Our chapter regent spoke before a small group (who braved the cold rain) and then we dispersed to lay over 150 wreaths. Thankful for two Little Red River Chapter, DAR members who joined us as well. (And always thankful for our HoDar.)
Pearl Harbor – Bronze Medal Award (with Valor)

What a fabulous speaker we had today! Her father was at Pearl Harbor and saved SIX men off the Arizona. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal (with Valor). She spoke easily for over an hour about him and journey to see him awarded the medal. Absolutely fascinating!
Trail for Tears (NLR Edition)

Polly Conway Daughters toured the water route of the Trail of Tears. There are nine panels on the River Trail in North Little Rock that discuss the tribes and difficulties they faced. We then enjoyed lunch at Brood & Barley in Argenta.
CASA Donation

Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR took $330 of items to Grand Prairie CASA. Our Christmas child is a small preemie girl that now has lots of clothes, diapers, formula and even a stuffed unicorn.
Supporting American Legion Post 91

Members of the Polly Conway Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented a $50 check and a Certificate of Appreciation to the American Legion Post 91 in Beebe.
Thanksgiving Food Pantry

Polly Conway members brought food for the Thanksgiving Pantry at the America Legion Post 91. Our chapter regent delivered the collected items to Post 91. Our chapter donated over $130 of food to Post 91 for the Thanksgiving Food Pantry, including a ham and turkey!
Trail of Tears Association Research Coordinator

The Research Coordinator for the Arkansas Chapter of the Trail of Tears, came and spoke on how Native Americans traversed through Arkansas. Almost ALL native Americans who participated touched Arkansas by land or boat before reaching what is now Oklahoma. She was fascinating.
Beebe Fallin’ Blackbird Festival

Five Polly Conway Daughters, a CAR member, and three HoDARs fought the rain to see the 130th anniversary ASDAR exhibit at the Arkansas State Capitol. Wow. How totally fabulous! We also discussed our two Trail of Tears books and Quatie Ross’ graveside at Mount Holly Cemetery.
Beebe Fallin’ Blackbird Festival

Perfect weather for serving the community. Polly Conway Chapter, NSDAR worked a table at the Fallin’ Blackbird Festival in Beebe. We passed out military men to remember those serving. We also passed out suckers and the last of our America 250 bags. We finished off with a patriotic photo booth and a donation box for Wreaths Across America. Successful day!

The Polly Conway Chapter loaded up three cars and headed to Northwest Arkansas. We stopped to glimpse the eclipse before heading to one of the DAR forests outside of Locke. After grabbing lunch at Bricktown Brewery in Fort Smith, we continued to the Fort Smith National Historic Museum. We found on the “walls” of the fort a memorial from the Martha Baker Truman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution from 1930. The fort was part of the Trail of Tears as the Native Americans came through Fort Smith on land and water.
Birthday Party Bags

Polly Conway Chapter prepared children birthday party Bags for the Beebe School Food Pantry. The chapter members put together the bags with items needed for a boy or girl birthday party. The chapter regent delivered the birthday party bags to the pantry.
America 250! Grant

Polly Conway Chapter attended the Beebe Math and Literacy Fair at Beebe Elementary school. We passed out America 250! bags with our grant money. Each bag contained a flag, a pencil, stickers, and many other goodies.

125th Anniversary of the Spanish-American War

Polly Conway Chapter members attended an event to commemorate the 12th Anniversary of the Spanish-American War. The commemoration was held by the Little Rock-Centennial Chapter and was led by their chapter regent. She presented a few family photos to the museum curator from the 2nd Arkansas Volunteer Infantry.

Polly Conway Chapter members attended the Memorial Day services in Beebe. Beebe renamed the street by the Veteran Park as Freedom Way. A Polly Conway Daughter also attended the ceremony in Cabot.

Polly Conway finished reading My Cave Life in Vicksburg by Mary Ann Loughborough. She is buried in Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock. After a lunch at U.S. Pizza, the Daughters went to the cemetery to visit her grave. For more photos click here

The Polly Daughter’s met to discuss their latest book, “Revolutionary: Samuel Adams” by Stacy Schift. A fabulous book detailing the revolt that rose up in Boston and led to a declaration of war. Behind it all, was one man: Samuel Adams.

MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History

The Daughters caught a temporary exhibit at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, “Imagery & Irony: The Fight for Women’s Suffrage Through the Political Catoons of Nina Allender”. The Daughters also wandered the halls of the museum soaking in Arkansas Civil War history. The Daughters (and one HoDar) then enjoyed a scrumptous lunch outside at The Root Cafe. Abigail Hartman Rice

The daughters took a field trip to Lonoke County Museum and heard a fabulous program on American Revolutionary Was Nurse Abigail Hartman Rice. Polly Conway made a donation to the Lonoke County Museum and will have a “leaf” on their golden tree. We then enjoyed a yummy lunch at the Grumpy Rabbit.
Iron Jawed Angels

In conjunction with the Bill Clinton Presidential Library exhibit, “Women’s Rights”, the daughters enjoyed a showing of “Iron Jawed Angels”. The movie is based on Alice Paul of the National Work Park and their attempts to pass federal legislature for women’s suffrage.

Monday night is BBQ night at the local American Legion and the daughters gathered to support their evening. The money raised supports local veterans and educational scholarships.

The Pollies pulled together to create some beautiful valentines for local veterans. The Daughters showed their talent (and patience). The valentines will be passed out at Greystone Retirement Center, the Beebe Retirement Center, and other places.

The Polly’s Book Club met to discuss American Jezebel: The Anne Hutchinson Story by Eve LaPlante. Mixed Reviews but we enjoyed a nice afternoon of discussion and snacks. The next book is Revolutionary: Samuel Adams by Stacy Schiff.
