oUR cHAPTER pATRIOTS

Patriots are the backbone of the DAR. The definition of a Patriot is “a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors”. Not all Patriots fought in the militia. Patriots may have furnished supplies, taken an oath of allegiance, or been elected to serve as judges. A Patriot is anyone who supported the cause for American independence through military, civil, or patriotic service, which must have occurred during the period between April 19, 1775, and November 26, 1783. For a list of acceptable services, see the ACCEPTED REVOLUTIONARY WAR SERVICE page for more information.

Each woman in the DAR must prove a lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. That ancestor is referred to as your PATRIOT.

The following list contains the Patriots of our chapter members. Search the DAR website for all proven Patriots. If you do not find your Patriot in the DAR database, you may have the opportunity to prove a new Patriot!

About Our Patriots

Our Patriots are our pride and joy.  They are the reason we do everything that we do.  They signed Oaths of Allegiance, fought the British soldiers, paid taxes to support the war, and provided needed supplies.  It is hard to think about but until they won the fight for independence, they were considered traitors.  They had stepped up to fight the largest and most powerful country in the world.  They were not celebrated.  They were ostracized by their loyalist families.   They were considered rebels.  Yet, they did what they could to change the course of our country.  They are celebrated now but during the war, their actions were illegal.

All members are direct descendants of a Patriot.  Click on the Patriot to see his or her Patriot Snapshot.
